Seed Pod Trio
The Florida Seed Pod Trio | Contemporary Lost Wax Glass
A Study in Abundance, Cycle, and Connection
This evocative trio of sculptures translates the ephemeral beauty of St. Petersburg’s local flora into the permanent, luminous medium of cast glass. Discovered during walks through the neighborhood landscapes of Florida's Gulf Coast, these "found" botanical forms serve as a meditation on the local ecosystem and the infinite cycle of life.
The Concept: Connection & Abundance
While a single seed represents potential, this trio represents abundance. The group explores the interconnectedness of nature—the way life scatters, takes root, and regenerates. By casting these organic "Florida scraps" into glass, the mundane becomes monumental, and the fragile becomes eternal.
Artistic Details
• The Signature Color Shift: Crafted in a rare Rhubarb Pink to Amber glass. This tint is highly reactive to light:
• In shadow: A sophisticated, earthy rhubarb pink with hints of violet.
• In direct light: A warm, glowing amber "shift" that radiates from the thickest parts of the casting, mimicking the golden hour of a Florida afternoon.
• The Texture: Captured via the lost wax process, the sculptures retain the hyper-detailed "fingerprint" of the original organic matter—the parched skin of a seed pod, the ribbed casing, and the delicate decay of the Florida landscape.
• The Form: Three distinct but harmonious pieces, designed to be grouped together to create a conversation of shapes, shadows, and refracted light.
